If you are interested in “tiny houses”, HGTV may have the show for you. It’s called Tiny House Hunters. Like it’s name sakes, House Hunters and International House Hunters, the “tiny” version of the show follows a person, couple, or family while they search for a tiny house solution just right for them. Thus far I have seen programs where people have purchased an existing tiny home, purchased a pre-manufactured tiny home, purchased a yurt, and elected to build a portable tiny home.
Like the other versions of House Hunters, the tiny program provides a glimpse into the lives of people who are buying, in this case a tiny home, and allows us to follow along as they visit homes and discuss the pro’s and con’s of each of the three options they are presented. I think this is a fine introduction to the tiny home movement. They discuss the various reasons people want to live tiny and the options that going tiny provides.
I like that this program explores more of the tiny house options than some of the other programs – like Tiny House Nation – which seem to focus on building a house on a trailer platform. Tiny House Hunters so far has included existing “small” homes (under 700 square feet), existing tiny homes (under 300 square feet) on trailer platforms, yurts, rammed earth homes and other options that have been excluded from other programs. The program has featured people who are planning on living tiny all the time as well as people who want to live tiny as a vacation option.
