Transforming problem houses into Dream Homes

Currently, there is a lot of interest in building accessory dwellings. Accessory dwellings are smaller cottages or apartments built on a property that already has one dwelling. They are also known as back yard cottages, in-law units, granny flats, and a host of other names.

In the last few years roughly half of the projects in my studio have been and continue to be accessory dwellings. I have worked on accessory dwelling projects in San Francisco, Oakland, Sunnyvale, and Danville.

Because of the sustained interest in this project type, I have launched a website that is focused just on accessory dwellings: MyAccessoryDwelling.com. The website has lots of information about accessory dwellings for people who are thinking about, or planning to add one to their property.

The rules about accessory dwellings vary from city to city and state to state, so trying to drill down to what you can and cannot do on your own property can take some time. But the potential for a rental unit, or a place for your aging parent, or any other of a host of potential uses. is very favorable.

I am developing an online course about accessory dwellings that will be offered through MyAccessoryDwelling.com in just a few months time. If you are seriously thinking about adding an accessory dwelling to your property, you will want to take my course.

Check out MyAccessoryDwelling.com. Feel free to share the link with a friend or associate who might be thinking about this kind of project.
