It Is National Architecture Week – Hug An Architect Today!

With my nose to the grindstone, I recently looked up – and out onto the internet – only to discover that this is National Architecture Week! (April 6 -12)

Who knew?

Apparently a lot of people did. Some how I missed the memo. But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate architecture for the rest of this week, and, perhaps, if it’s really good, on days throughout the year.

Architecture is a big subject and there are many expressions (Classical, Modern, Blob, et. al.), and any expression, if well executed is worthy of praise. Those buildings that are poorly executed, well, we just won’t talk about them and suggest to the owners, as Frank Lloyd Wright supposedly said, “just plant some vines”.

Every building an architect works on, whether it is a house, a church, a hospital, an office building, is designed not just for the client, but for the occupants and users, the casual visitors, and the passers by – in essence, for you. Hug an architect today and say thank you for all that they’ve done.
