Are you considering building a granny flat, in-law unit, or backyard cottage?
These are all names for what governmental jurisdictions are calling Accessory Dwelling Units, or ADUs.
There is so much interest in these small, secondary dwellings, that I am launching a new website: MyAccessoryDwelling.com to provide information about the potential and challenges that this particular house type present.
The website will provide information about the following:
- What, exactly, an accessory dwelling is, along with all the other names they can go by
- Why they are popular now
- The various types of accessory dwellings
- The challenges they present and how to solve them
Accessory dwellings are being used as rental units, guest houses, retirement housing, and in many other ways. They present many home and property owners with the ability to add a second dwelling to their property, which is a very attractive opportunity for many people.
The site is launching on April 2nd, 2018. It will be an excellent resource for people who are thinking about adding an accessory dwelling to their property.
There will also an online, video based course that I am developing to go along with the new website. The course will be available before the end of June 2018.
